Crisis counselling
Sooner or later in our lives, we all experience events that can upset our mental balance and change the course of our daily lives. There are situations that, for better or for worse, permanently or temporarily, we can resolve on our own. At other times, the intervention of a professional is needed to restore a state of equilibrium. Crisis counselling is a rapid and effective psychological first aid service aimed at resolving a psychological crisis – a specific, high-stress, often agitated, emotionally unstable and constricted state of mind – as quickly as possible. The aim of the sessions is to support the client in crisis with understanding and compassion, to help them to see themself and what is happening more realistically, to recognise the skills they can use to resolve the crisis, to overcome their sense of failure and hopelessness and to restore their previous functioning and adaptability.
When should you seek professional help?
It is advisable seeing a professional if you feel that you are facing an emotionally significant and unexpected situation that overrides everything else in your priorities, and that you cannot avoid or resolve. Such circumstances may include:
Accidental crises (sudden life events accompanied by a sense of failure, danger, loss):
Life stage transition crises (relatively longer periods where the crisis is more of a turning point, a crucial period of increased vulnerability and increased opportunity):
How long does the crisis counselling last?
One session lasts 50 minutes.
Frequency: 1-3 sessions per week (depending on the depth of the crisis)
Number of sessions: 3-8 sessions.
Crisis counselling is a relatively short process, in the case of a non-cumulative experience of loss, depending on the depth of the crisis and the client’s motivation. Afterwards, of course, further sessions can be agreed with the psychologist to maintain the state of equilibrium achieved, to explore and process other factors involved in the development of the crisis, and to reflect on how certain difficult life situations can be both a tool for inner change and personal development.
Important! Our foundation is not a crisis clinic, our psychologists can only see clients by pre-arranged appointments.
If you need immediate help or if you are at risk of suicide, please contact your GP or the relevant acute psychiatric care centre (psychiatric outpatient department, psychiatric department of the local hospital, etc.) or call the general emergency number 112.

“As a recent graduate, I could not found my place in life or in the job market for a long time. I now know that I had a quarter-life crisis. Through the counselling sessions I started to believe in myself and my future, I understood what was behind my self-sabotaging procrastination and I was much more courageous in taking on new situations that I had previously avoided. The work I put in has brought the expected results in different areas of my life.”
